We are proud to release the findings of the latest Quality Reviews of Ochre curriculum resources. Following the pilot review of our primary English resources in 2024, we have completed Quality Reviews in secondary mathematics, primary science and primary humanities.
Ochre is committed to providing high-quality curriculum resources and maintaining a consistent focus on setting and ensuring rigorous established quality standards lead to high-quality outputs. The quality review process is undertaken as an independent review, aiming to gather feedback from practising teachers across Australia to inform the continuous improvement of Ochre’s curriculum and instructional materials. The reviews are underpinned by Ochre’s quality framework, and focus on the key areas of curricula, instructional materials and diversity.
Quality reviews are undertaken by dedicated review teams including Teacher Expert Panellist members, all practising teachers in Australian schools. The members of this panel reflect the diversity of Australian teachers and the contexts in which they work. The Teacher Expert Panel is supported by an Advisory Panel, made up of individuals from academia, system leadership or curriculum development backgrounds.
Ochre materials performed strongly across all criteria in each of the quality reviews. Key highlights include strong performance across the board on reflecting evidence-aligned teaching practices, specifying the knowledge and skills to be learnt in detail, reflecting high expectations for learners, and aligning to the Australian curriculum.
Key constructive take-aways also emerged, including ways in which around lessons could be combined or adapted lessons for split-level or multi-age contexts for secondary maths, providing greater consistency in the structure and depth of ‘anchoring ideas’ in primary science, and providing supports and alternative activities to help students with lower literacy skills access the learning in primary humanities.
The Ochre team has reviewed feedback closely, and we are committed to making improvements to our existing and future materials based on the suggestions.
Our next quality review, of Ochre’s secondary English resources, is underway and will be complete by the end of 2026, reflecting our commitment to upholding high quality standards for our curriculum materials.
