Parent FAQ
How Ochre Education works, and how you can use it to support your child’s learning
Inspired by the success and achievements of the UK’s Oak National Academy, Ochre Education has emerged to help teachers and students get access to high-quality curriculum resources when they need them.
Ochre provides free video lessons, slides, and worksheets to support teachers and their students. While initially created as a response to COVID-19, we hope that these freely available resources will assist teachers in complementing schools’ teaching way beyond the pandemic. Our resources are also available to use within a school or classroom setting.
We currently have an initial set of units for maths and English for students in Years 3 to 6 ready, with plans to gradually expand subject and year levels. There are no sign ups or logins required, and a student can access the resources from any device with an internet connection.
While the lessons and resources may be an essential part of helping a child’s learning, parents and caregivers should follow their school’s instructions when using Ochre. Parents may also choose to use Ochre’s library of resources to help their children recap, revise, or catch up on schoolwork where appropriate.
Each lesson should take about an hour for a student to complete, and it includes the following:
-
A pre-recorded video with explanations from a teacher, and accompanying slides
-
Introduction and exit quizzes
-
Downloadable worksheets and activities

FAQs:
For those who have a child at home using Ochre Education.
What does my child need to take part in the lessons?
Each lesson is very clear about what you need at the start. There are minimal additional materials required for most, usually just a pen or pencil and some paper.
Do children need to do the lessons with an adult?
Each lesson consists of a pre-recorded video with a teacher who takes students through each section step-by-step. The lesson video can be paused and rewound to help students learn at their own pace. While the amount of supervision will vary depending on the learner’s age, our lessons have been designed to have minimal adult assistance.
How can I use Ochre Education quizzes?
Our quizzes will help to quickly understand your child’s progress and maximise teaching and learning time. Children should complete a quiz before and after a lesson. The quiz is automatically marked, and students can access their final score and see a breakdown of the answers for each question. We hope our quizzes will help to give you a better understanding of your child’s knowledge and skills, test for prior learning and understanding, better shape any catch-up intervention, and provide personalised revision.
Should parents be using Ochre Education to home-school their children?
Ochre Education helps ensure that every child has access to high-quality instruction. We have created lesson content that helps keep learning consistent and targeted. We offer all our lessons for free, without requiring logins or passwords, which means that any parent, carer or student can easily access our website. Our curriculum resources may complement teachers’ existing lesson plans and are mapped to the Australian Curriculum. While parents and caregivers may find resources helpful in supporting their children’s learning, we always recommend that parents seek and follow the advice of school and education department guidelines in their State or Territory.
Does the content align with my child’s school and syllabus?
Yes! All our resources are relevant to your child’s school syllabus and what they cover in the classroom. Our team of experienced educators, subject leads, and curriculum managers have mapped our content to the Australian Curriculum.
How do I know my children will access quality educational material?
At Ochre Education, we want to ensure that all materials are safe, age-appropriate, and suitable for children. We have partnered with the Australian Education Research Organisation (AERO), and teaching resources are aligned with the evidence-based practices as described in AERO’s Tried and Tested evidence guides for schools. Teacher lesson creators undergo a rigorous selection process, and all lessons are reviewed by a subject lead and quality assurance team.

Do I need a login and password?
You don’t need a login or password to access Ochre’s Lessons or Teacher Hub, and our website doesn’t collect personally identifiable information, so your data is safe.
What material and resources will be provided in each lesson?
All lessons contain a pre-recorded video with explanations from a teacher. Our lessons combine other elements helping the learner – most lessons will include a starter quiz, a finishing quiz, and independent activity, often with a worksheet. We’ve had positive feedback that this is one of both schools’ and students’ favourite elements of the Ochre offer.
